The Bielefeld University was founded back in 1965. It is the largest of the six universities of Bielefeld with its 17.500 students. The Bielefeld University is divided into 13 different faculties (see table below). Since the founding of the so called CeBiTec (Center for Biotechnology) in 1998 by the Senate of Bielefeld the university established a huge range of techniques and equipment to cover all „omics“ research fields.

Since the summer of 2007 the CeBiTec resides in a new building on the campus of Bielefeld University. The building offers laboratories for the Institute for Genome Research and Systems Biology, in particular for the Technology Platform Genomics. With focus on international collaborations , the platform hosts several techniques including sequencing (454 as well as illumina), transcriptomics, and annotations over proteomics (GC-GC-MS, MALDI-TOF-MS, qTOF-MS) up to the metabolomics took place here in the CeBiTec. Furthermore, the Chair of Genome Research resides in the building. Also the Institute for Biophysics and Nanosciences and the Institute for Biochemistry and Bioengineering run specific laboratories. This way, the CeBiTec creates an unique environment of excellent competence.

The Bielefeld University is divided into 13 different faculties (see table below). Well known for its outstanding disciplinary social science faculty, the university also turned into a lighthouse of biotechnology during the last few years.

Die Universiät Bielefeld wurde 1965 gegründet. Sie ist mit 17.500 Studenten die grösste der sechs Bielefelder Hochschule und die einzige Hochschule in der Region Minden-Ravensburg. Sie ist in 13 Fakultäten unterteilt und konnte mit den Fachbereichen Soziologie und Pädagogik im [http://www.focus.de Focus]-Ranking 2005 der deutschen Universitäten den 1. Platz belegen. Die Universität wurde als Campusuni konzipiert, um den Wissenschaftlichen Austausch zwischen den Fakultäten zu erleichtern bzw. zu ermöglichen. Die Universiät ist dem Exzellenzstreben in der Breite verschrieben. Neben der Exzellenzinitiative für kognitive Wissenschaften konnte mit dem CLIB Cluster 2021 eine Verknüpfung von Wirtschaft und Forschung an der Universität etabliert werden.
