Centre for Biological Signalling Studies
Biological signalling processes are the key regulators of cellular activity in all types of cells in living organisms. A better understanding of these processes not only provides solutions to important biological problems, but also has a major impact on medical research and practice. The Centre for Biological Signalling Studies (BIOSS) in Freiburg uses modern analytical methods and strategies of synthetic biology to study biological signalling processes in a creative and playful way. The main focus of research at BIOSS is to initiate and promote a dialectic process between scientists using analytical (dissecting) and synthetic (rebuilding) approaches in signalling research.
Albert-Ludwigs-Universität FreiburgNot only is the University of Freiburg physically located in the heart of the city of Freiburg – its students, professors, and staff are also an integral part of daily life in the ‘Capital of the Black Forest.’ This is also one of the reasons why Freiburg has become such a popular place to study. Aside from the numerous leisure activities which may be enjoyed in and near the city and its proximity to the Alsace and Switzerland, it is above all the variety of academic progams which attracts so many students to Freiburg. The university boasts a wide variety of degree programs in any of more than 160 fields in 11 faculties.
Freiburg Institute for Advanced StudiesThe Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) is the University of Freiburg’s international research college. It was established after Freiburg’s success in the Federal Excellence Initiative in October 2007. As a centre-piece of the Albert-Ludwigs-University’s institutional strategy, FRIAS pursues three main objectives: to promote top level research, to develop new interdisciplinary areas of competence and knowledge, and to foster the advancement of outstanding junior scholars.
RocheAt Roche we focus on developing medicines and diagnostics that will help patients live longer, better lives. We strive to address unmet medical needs through excellence in science – from early detection and prevention of diseases to diagnosis, treatment and treatment monitoring.
QIAGENQIAGEN is the leading provider of sample and assay technologies. Sample technologies are used to isolate DNA, RNA, and proteins from any biological sample. Assay technologies are then used to make specific target biomolecules, such as the DNA of a specific virus, visible for subsequent analysis.
Deutsches KrebsforschungszentrumThe German Cancer Research Center (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, DKFZ) is the largest biomedical research institute in Germany and is a member of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers. More than 2,200 staff members, including more than 1,000 scientists, are investigating the mechanisms of cancer and are working to identify cancer risk factors. They provide the foundations for developing novel approaches in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.

HiSS Diagnostics GmbHHiSS Diagnostics GmbH was founded in 1989 in Freiburg im Breisgau. Originally, we had only products for the medical microbiology, immunology and quality assurance for medical laboratories from representative providers, mainly from the United States and the Netherlands into the German market. Since 1991, our portfolio of antibodies for basic research in immunology, cancer research and neurology was expanded. Since that time, HiSS Diagnostics GmbH have made it's name in this area and is looking forward until today, to a wide range of antibodies, ELISA systems and purification systems for molecular biology, immunology and cell biology.

Avidity, LLCAvidity develops and sells molecular affinity tools for connecting molecules. Our patented AviTag™ technology employs a highly targeted enzymatic conjugation of a single biotin on a unique 15 amino acid peptide tag using the biotin ligase (BirA) from E. coli. AviTag™ sequence is GLNDIFEAQKIEWHE. Oriented on streptavidin-coated surfaces, this creates an ideal presentation for molecular binding interactions.
