When we began thinking about our kit we knew we wanted to make something more than a plain old science kit. We wanted something that could revolutionize the biology classroom. Something that would not only teach students about biology but inspire them, transforming them from mere students into Synthetic biologists!   With GENOMIKON, we have created something truly unique: an educational experience that allows students to design and actually assemble their own plasmid in an afternoon and transform bacteria in a day. A tool that’s potential will certainly extend far beyond the classroom.

TEAM ALBERTA

We set out to create a kit that would revolutionize the biology classroom. We sought to inspire individuals to be creative and imagine the unlimited possibilities of synthetic biology! With the GENOMIKON kit, we have created something truly unique: an educational experience that allows students to design and actually assemble their own plasmid in an afternoon and transform bacteria in a day. Students will learn fundamentals of biotechnology, molecular and synthetic biology by actually doing it.

This tour briefly describes what we accomplished. Here the the science that allows our kit to function is introduced as well as the software tools that makes the kit funitonal. There is more detailed information in other locations of the wiki so please explore the rest of our site as well if that’s what you are after!
