Revision as of 23:34, 21 June 2010

Tuesday May 11, 2010

Today, we made E. coli cells competent and able to uptake DNA through the method involving CaCl2. As well, we came up with several project ideas that we thought were feasible to attempt as a summer project. We narrowed the ideas down to

  • Bacteria producing vanilla-flavoured alcohol
  • Bacteria that detected vanilla in food products
  • Bacteria producing hydrogen that could possibly power fuel cells
  • Directed Evolution as a technique
