Safety considerations are of great importance when working in a biological lab, and as an iGEM team working with biological material we took the necessary safety precautions and explorations very seriously. (Biological) Safety is not only limited to rules and regulations, but also follows from common sense and paying attention to detail. On our Biological safety page we further explore the possible risks, safety and security concerns connected to Synthetic Biology and specifically our project.

Next to Biological Safety in the laboratory we also considered the influence of our work on the general public. For example, what are the ethical implications of our project? What is the opinion of the general public about synthetic biology? But we also thought about pressing issues such as DNA patenting, and what kind of influence this has on the development of the field of synthetic biology.
