Education

Synthetic biology is going to change the 21th century! From bacteria that clean your kitchen table to organisms that save your life by warning you for dangerous toxics!

Wondering how this is accomplished?

This year’s team is actively seeking collaboration with the Science Centre Delft and students from computer science in order to develop a serious game about synthetic biology. Also, TU Delft iGEM team took part in the Nanovideohunt competition in which young people learn about science on the small scale.

The Delft Science Centre opened its doors to the public on September 2nd c2010. The brand new Science Centre provides a fascinating peek behind the scenes at the TU Delft. It is a place where science and society meet: visitors will get to experience hands on the research that's being done the the TU Delft as we speak by interactive and especially informative set-ups and rooms.

One of the exhibitions in the Science Centre is the Biotechnology room, created in collaboration with the TU Delft iGEM team (us!). Upon entering the visitor is overwhelmed by a wall full of colorful microorganisms, a sneak peak into the amazing microscopic world. As soon as you find out how to use the photo plates in the flow cabinet, the screens in the cabinet show informative movies about several important microorganisms. Watch them here and see how we contributed.

Nanopodium is a platform for exchanging thoughts, ideas, opinions and best practices on nanotechnology. The aim is to stimulate a public dialogue about the opportunities and threats of nanotechnology and resulting applications with regard to individuals and society as a whole. Nanopodium is an initiative of the independent Committee for the Societal Dialogue on Nanotechnology in the Netherlands (CMDN).

Nano Podium Video Hunt is a campaign started with Hyves were young people are challenged to post videos about their views on nanotechnology. iGEM has also contributed to this project by producing a nice video about our project in cooperation with Nanopodium. Watch here with English subtitles).
