Adding Antibiotics to LB-agar

This method allows you to make LB-agar plates with no antibiotic, and add the antibiotic when needed.

Materials

  • 1000x stock antibiotic solution
  • LB-agar plates, clean
  • Glass beads, sterile

Procedure

  1. Warm plate to 37°C.
  2. Add 50μL of 1000x antibiotic to the surface of the agar.
  3. Distribute antibiotic evenly using glass beads.
  4. Dispose of beads and allow plates to dry in biohood or near flame.
