Washington University in St. Louis is a nonsectarian, private research university located in suburban St. Louis area in Missouri. Founded in 1853 and named after George Washington, the university has students and faculty from all fifty U.S. states and more than 110 nations. Twenty-two Nobel laureates have been associated with Washington University, with nine doing the major part of their pioneering research at the university. The undergraduate program is ranked 13th in the nation by US News and World Report and 30th in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities. Washington University has also been selected to host either a presidential or vice presidential debate in every United States presidential election since 1992.
