My name is Maarten, 25 years old and studying molecular life sciences at the University of Groningen. I've always been intrigued by science and when I finally started studying biology it got even worse. It just blows my mind the things we can do nowadays, especially in the field of synthetic biology. When I heard about the iGEM competition I instantly knew I wanted to join this year's team from our university.
Most of my spare time I spend on my friends, chilling, having a beer. But I'm also putting a lot of time into theater and lately music as well. And since I am a bit of a nerdy biologist I grow herbs, vegetables and fruits in my kitchen and on my balcony. I also love going to concerts and festivals.
Well I hope you guys have great fun working on your projects, we sure do, and I'm really looking forward to the iGem jamboree and meeting people from all over the world.
See you in Boston!
