- | iGEM, or the ''International Genetically Engineered Machine'' competition, is the premiere undergraduate synthetic biology competition which was founded in 2003 in conjunction with the ''Registry of Standard Biological Parts'' to enable the systematic engineering of biology and promote the open and transparent development of biological engineering tools. Since its inception, the number of teams has grown from five to one hundred and eleven from all around the world.

- | As our iGEM team is in its inaugural year, we are currently sponsored solely by Northwestern University, and the cost of research and development can get quite high. The estimated cost of the entire endeavor including reagent cost, faculty salary, and travel costs, is roughly about $40,000, and our iGEM team would be very grateful if your organization could supply a portion of the expenses.
