Abstract

The Cambridge iGEM Team 2010 investigated the capacity of bioluminescence for the generation of sustainable alternatives to traditional light sources. We placed genes form fireflies and bioluminescent prokaryotes into E.coli to make E.glowli. Codon optimisation and single amino acid mutagenesis allowed us to generate bright light output in a range of different colours.
