Rather than a boring old paper lab manual our team decided to try and take it one step further and created an online lab manual and plasmid design tool, you can find it at The online tool, has everything the student needs to get started, there are pre-made experiments, articles explaining various topics in biology, and an integrated glossary. Once they feel they’ve got the hang of it they can dig right in using the online plasmid design tool to get started creating their own experiments. When they save the plasmid it generates the protocol so they can start building it in the lab. Then they can publish it making it public so that others can try it out as well. Check out the screen cast below to see just how easy it is to use!

The software we have created makes an excellent companion to the kit and we hope that it will empower students to go beyond the initial experiments we designed and start making and sharing their own plasmid designs!
