|We embarked on our iGEM project in early July, after finishing our exams and having about a week off for a bit of rest and relaxation. There have been highs, there have been lows, but it's all part of the amazing journey that is iGEM! We really hope you enjoy reading our diary, but if you're a bit short of time we recommend the video diary for a slightly more entertaining experience!|
|On Monday, Maddie got transformants of the pVEG-XylE in 3K3 (testing vector) which she then miniprepped.
We had a meeting with the advisors on Tuesday to chat about the presentation and the format it would take. On Wednesday, we ran our last school workshop at Quintin Kynaston School in St John's Wood. We ended it on a high with the students' adverts and our iGEM video diary.
Having seen the Economist adverts (see below) at a tube station, we ended up having a heated discussion about whether having emotive and provocative language in newspaper headlines, adverts etc. is justifiable if it sparks debate and engagement of scientists with the wider public.
